We left Portland at 6AM on Tuesday and arrived in Beijing at 2PM on Wednesday (local time). -The time difference is 12 hours so we lost 1/2 day on the journey.
The trip itself went pretty smoothly and we got through customs in very little time, but then it took about 2 hours for our bags to arrive... I have never been so tired in my life. I felt like I was sleeping while standing up. We were met at the airport by the tour guide who will show us around Beijing. The drive from the airport to our hotel was short but VERY scary! The driver was so close to cars I thought we'd be sharing the back seat with them a few times.
We walked around the city for a very short time last night. -Just long enough for me to realize I was too tired to even try to explore. So now, after 12 hours of sleep I feel like I can enjoy our day at the Forbidden City.

Waking into the Beijing airport after that flight was the most calming experience ever. The whole airport and surrounding streets are made to look like a dragon. The inside of the airport is very clean with shiny marble floors and a flowing roof that mimics the shape of a dragon. The play calming music inside and it was very quiet for one or so in the afternoow. We waited for our luggage for about two hours which made us grumpy. Breezing thru customs we entered the main airport where their were hundreds of people waiting for their loved ones and tourist friends to arrive. Everone had a sign with a name on it. Kim said "I wonder if someone is picking us up" We though we would have to find a shuttle. Just then I spotted a sign reading "Tam Travel Chewning" I waved to the guy and he couldn't beleive that we finnaly arrived. Kobi is his name and that's the longest he has every waited for anyone. Kobi is just what we needed his english sounds like he is an american and he loves basketball. He took our bags and ushered us to pivate mini van with the AC cranked. The driver cold of lived in NYC because he was very aggrisive and was cutting people off while Kobi kept telling us the sights of Beijing. We arrived at our hotel with an unscratched van and went into the hotel which is in the center of town. Our hotel is very nice www.sunworldhotel.com.cn After resting and taking a shower we walked around town for a while. I tryed to take some pictures of all the people in their normal lives but the kept staring at me because I'm american. The city is very overcast today. Hopefully tomorrow it will clear up so we can see all the beauty. -Todd-
