We woke up to a very humid and hot day. We went to a section of the Great Wall that is about one hour outside of Beijing. The Great Wall is built on very steep mountains so the hiking was going to be tough. We hiked to the highest point in this section. Chairmen Mao said you can't be a true hero if you don't hike to the top. It was so hot and humid that I had to buy a "I hiked the great wall" tee shirt because mine was soaked. The first section is very steep so most people stop at the first or second watchtower. The rest of the hike was steep but a little easier and alot less crowded. Newlyweds attach locks to the wall; it is a Chinese tradition that when a couple gets married that they attach locks to the wall and throw the keys into the valley to repesent thier love.
We stopped by the largest jade factory in Asia. Thier are certain types of jade that our only found in certain parts of China. Jade cutting is passed down from generation to generation and some of the cutters at this factory are desentants of the artists that cut for the Emerors. -Todd-
