Day 2 July 15th

The jet lag is gone (for me at least) and I'm ready to see Tian'an Men Square and the Forbidden city. After a nice breakfeast at the hotel our crazy driver dropped us of at T-Squ. There we saw the special police guarding the Chinese flag in front of the Forbidden City. These guards stand like a statue and don't even blink an eye. It seems as though every one in China has to make a pilgramage to this area at least once in their life. The place is packed with people but inside the walls of the city their seems to be enough room for people to get around. The architecture inside the city is amazing, and most of it has been freshly painted for the olympics. They use real gold leaf in the restoration. For a while their was a Starbucks inside the city but it has been taken out. Inside their was a display of some of the jade from that era the oldest being 200 BC and going through the late 1700s.  We ate lunch at a Buddhist restraunt which serves only vegeratain food. I was in heaven. We visited the Summer Palace of the emperors, this had a lot more green area and a lake. For dinner we ate a restraunt called Pure Lotus, it was a "theme" restaurant that again served only vegeratian food. This was an upscale place and all the dishes made to look like fish, sausage, and beef. Sounds gross but it was tasty. The staff was dressed in robes that blended in with the walls. Two dudes were wearing what looked like disco shirts and I think one girl that worked their, her job was to tell you not to trip over the 2 inch step as you go into the bathroom.    -Todd-

  1. Sounds like some great restaurant experiences already! Are you going to try the all veg restaurant in Guangzhou too? It was really good, but no weird costumes or food made to look like something else.

    Have fun!
